The Capitolio building in the distance (left). It was finished in 1929 and designed
loosely after our building in Washington. Before the revolution it housed the
Chamber of Deputies and the Cuban Senate. Now it is a tourist stop. On the
right is the exquisitely detailed
Gran Teatro de la Habana which now
functions as the home of the Cuba National Ballet and Opera. It was built in 1837.
In its time it was considered one of the world's finest theaters and operatic luminaries
like Enrico Caruso and Sarah Bernhardt performed there in its heyday.
